Aroma Mediterranean Resto Bar

Aromas was delicious, good atmosphere, tasty food and good company. We got the Baked Spiced Goat Cheese. It was Goats Cheese Rolled In Spiced Nuts With An Apple Rosemary Compote, Wonton Chips, Flatbread And A Black Berry Paint.

We were recommended a red Sterling wine and it was great. Aimee had the Northern Saskatchewan Pickerel and Sarah had the Streak and Mushroom Not Pot Pie. Both were delicious! Would go back to try the fire-over-pizzas those also looked good. Not very many dessert options, so we made our own :)

Check out the menu: Here!

Pottery- Becoming a Part of the Guild!

If you hate Mondays you should take a pottery class! It will make you excited fore Monday night and its a great start to your week. Aimee and I took a class through the Saskatoon Potters Guild

Leather Hard- Before Firing!
After Glazing!
The first thing you will learn to do is center your pottery on the wheel. Sounds easy enough, but it can be quite difficult especially if your a perfectionist! The second thing you will learn to do it throw a cylinder. Once you master cylinders you can learn to make handles to make a mug. After cylindars you learn to make bowls, which have a round bottom. From this you and further master creamers and sugar bowls. If its a flop it turns out to be a spoon rest, great idea!

Aimee's Creations :)
Sarah: What are you going to make today?
Aimee: Well I'm going to try for a bowl, but we will see how it turns out..
(Everything doesn't always turn out exactly how you planned it, which is all part of the fun!)

Sailor Dan

Many people recognize this man walking around town. He is know an Sailor Dan for his ship sketches and unmistakable personality. He is so famous that he 12 729 likes on facebook!  "In Saskatoon, he's a novelty, he sticks out like a sore thumb." -StarPhoenix

One of Sailor Dan's Sketches

"His red shoes, green socks and yellow corduroy pants are complemented by a shiny dollar sign belt buckle. A worn-down mermaid tattoo is visible below his rolled up sleeves. His coffee sits on the table to his left -- no cream, two scoops of sugar. Directly in front of him is a clean white bristol board. He takes out one of the six black Sharpie pens hooked to his shirt collar, lifts off his fluorescent orange Mickey Mouse hat, slicks back his silver and black hair and begins to draw, one line at a time."

What a great Saskatoon souvenir, eh?

Sarah: "Im going to Thailand!"
Sailor Dan: "How are you getting there?"
Sarah: "Im taking a plane."
Sailor Dan: "Ohh.."
(He was so sad I wasn't sailing across the ocean! Haha)

Eggplant: Nutritious and Delicious

Nutritious: Eggplants, the scary looking purple veggie found at the supermarket, are very nutritional! They contain no fat are high in fiber and have many vitamins and minerals. Also, they are high in chlorogenic acid, an antioxidant that has antimicrobial and antiviral activities along with the ability to help lower bad cholesterol. Eggplant is also a source of the antioxidant nasunin. Nasunin is primarily found in the skin of the vegetable and helps to fight cancer. Great!

Delicious: Eggplant Fries are Delicious! Aimee and I found an intriguing recipe for our new friend the eggplant and decided to make fries, always a good idea. They were scrumptious and healthy!

The Recipe was from: Eggplant Fries Recipe

Aimee's New Friend Eggy :)

Eggy got all chopped up! :(

But, we cant just have Eggy for dinner!

We decided to make pasta, with fresh farmers market tomatoes, in a homemade pasta sauce.

Pasta Sauce: (Serves 2)
  • 4 plump tomatoes
  • A couple cherry tomatoes sliced in half
  • Wine to taste (~2 Tbsp) - Preferably the wine you are drinking with dinner
  • Salt and Pepper
  • Garlic clove
  • Olive Oil
  • 1 Tbsp Balsamic Vinegar
  • Basil
  • Dehydrogenated Onion Flakes
In a large frying pan saute garlic in olive oil. Blend plump tomatoes in blender and add to frying pan. Add all other ingredients and simmer for 20 minutes.

 And... Asparagus!

Pan fried asparagus with lemon infused pepper and parmesan!

YUMMM!

Cava Wines

Newest and Greatest Discovery of our Saskatoon Adventures! Cava Wines, downtown Saskatoon is our newest home!

Reading about this place online sort of kept us from even entering the building.. conveniently located across from Farmer's Market! We were under the impression that you needed a membership to go here.. Boy were we pleasantly wrong!!

Cava Wines has amazing selection of wines for purchase, and best of all, there is a 12 wine tasting machine! You purchase a wine card and put some $$ on it for sampling! SOOOO wonderful!

Sarah and I just stood there and sampled wine while the British man kept walking by and giving us his two sense! So great! This place brings a huge smile to any wine lovers face! Great service & great wines ("that aren't sold in regular liquor stores"-British man employee)

Cava Wines - Check them out!

Such a Lovely Discovery! Amazing!

The Noodle King and Ice Cream Queen

Sushi Adventure to the Noodle King, which happens to contain the Ice Cream Queen, neat-o!

It was a lovely Thursday afternoon when Aimee picked me up from school; its the best when I don't have to take the bus. We went out for sushi, because I was having one of my cravings. We were the only ones in the restaurant who had a friend; every other person was sitting by themselves all facing the same direction it was quite odd really. The sushi was good, except for there was a mystery substance, you can see it in the picture on the far right. Its an orange colour and sooo weird tasting so we avoided it. Also, we got old fashioned cokes, in the glass bottle, fun times!

Side note: When you ask for an extra plate, as you do when you are sharing a meal, the man will bring you an extra soya sauce dish. If you are not expecting this dish to arrive its quite hilarious, and you may even spill your beverage! Woops!

I'm a fan of the rice paper spring rolls, i'm thinking of making them at home for lunches. YUMM!
Amazing!

Vin et le chocolat

Some of our favorite red wines at a great price point, include Ghost Pine Merlot (US) , Bolla Valpolicella (Italy) and our new favorite...

We were at the liquor store and decided to spice things up when this bottle caught my eye. I picked it up and was intrigued by the lable on the back. As I am reading the label outloud to Aimee, naturally, this friendly old man comes up and grabs a bottle and starts loading it into his eco-friendly bag... then two... then three.. then four.. Curiously, Aimee asks the man, is this good wine?! He says "this is the best wine in the store, you can't go wrong," and slinks off. So of course we have to try it.

The wine is called Apothic Red its a masterfull blend of wines including Zinfandel, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Apperently among the midst of this there is a hint of mocha and vanilla. AHHH so many flavors!!

Check out this wine here: Apothic Red Wine

Naturally, wine goes well with extremely chocolately desserts. So I introduced Aimee to Michael Smiths Chocolate Molten Lava Cakes. SOOOOO GOOOD! And you can make them in under ten minutes, for your extreme cravings. I know from experience.

Check out the recipe here: Chocolate Molten Lava Cakes

The combo of the two is Amazing!

Ice Castles

Ice Castles and Sculptures at Saskatooon's Farmers Market
So, who says ice castles are only for children!?

Sarah and I went down by the river to Saskatoon's Winter Festival to explore and see what this local event was all about. There was yes... an ICE CASTLE.. we may or not have been the only adults up there taking a million photos of frozen water along side the crazy kids running by and almost knocking us down to get to the ice slide!

After exploring the ice castle we took a gander at the ice sculptures and attempted to play ice hunk curling. This is where you grab a ice hunk and hurl it down the ice trying to get it in the bulls-eye, yes that a technical curling term. Aimee may of won but some kid ran over her ice chunk before we had time to get out our tape measure!
Aimee Ice Chunk Curling!
A random Thursday turned into a Great Adventure! Recommended for all ages. A great Saskatoon adventure with local supporters! See YOU there next year!

Amazing!!!
